The town El Paso de Robles means Pass of the oak trees and was co-founded by Kentucky outlaws Frank and Jessie James’ uncle Drury around 1869. Now referred to as Paso Robles, the town enjoys a coastal influence from the Pacific Ocean that is a stunning 30 minute drive away.
Located half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco on Highway 101, Paso Robles Wine Country is being touted as California’s hot wine region. It hails a collection of over 300 world-class wineries, breweries, distilleries and eateries located in both the quaint historic downtown and in the expansive surrounding countryside. Here deer, bobcats and flocks of wild turkeys mingle with cattle in the open fields, and in ancient oak groves. Pristine vineyards are plentiful and the grapes thrive in the region’s diverse soils: calcareous, alluvial, clay and loamy soils. Paso has a little special something for every wine and food connoisseur, and nature lover.
